What I did:
I followed Mrs Jang's instructions and read up on the Anton Casey incident where his offensive remarks on facebook has caused an uproar.
British businessman who mocked the poor has fled Singapore after receiving death threats and losing his job as a wealth fund manager.Anton Casey caused an uproar in the country after posting a series of abusive photographs on Facebook where he called a local taxi driver a "retard" and referred to commuters as "the poor" which was deeply offensive to locals.
Mr Casey's social media comments caused a major uproar when he posted a picture of his son with the caption: "Daddy where is your car and who are all these poor people?"He later posted a picture of his son is in a silver Porsche with the caption: "Normal service can resume, once I have washed the stench of public transport off me."
What I learned:
We should not post disrespectful remarks on any social media platforms which can upset and anger others. Just because of Anton Casey post, many angry Singapore residents have begun retaliating to his disrespectful comments towards the citizens of the nation he lives in, some even made death threats against him and his family. One important thing we must learn from this is that we should think carefully before we post stuff online, especially because the internet is such a good device now, people from all over the world can see what we post. We should not destroy our country's reputation with our own insensitive comments.
