What I did:
I have followed the Anton Casey issue for a while and while his actions don't describe the kind of person who should be managing large amounts of money, the reaction of some netizens is also in question.
What I have learnt:
While Mr Casey's actions are rude and distasteful, there has also been some very negative behaviour by netizens. He has received death threats and has been forced to move to Perth. There is a line you don't cross. Yes he is a despicable person and I am glad to see him go, but the people who post their comments about "booting out all the foreign trash" and complain about the "(expletive) ang moh"(both direct quote) are no better. Negative reaction against him is natural, negative reaction against people who look like him are just as bad.
The way I see it, the real victim is his son. Most children have the luxury of idolising their parents as an ideal of what they should do. How will his 5 year-old react in a few short years when he grasps the full meaning of "Public enemy no.1?" Almost everything on the internet can more or less be retrieved, how will he react to this? I cannot describe his father without significant payout to our swear jar, but the poor kid really has my sympathy.
