Independent Learning Log

26 JAN 2014

What I did:

I went to look for an article that is more out of the blue and out of the country that I would be interested in. The article is named "Girl mistakenly shot and killed by stepfather". Although the title sounds cruel and that you might judge the man who shot her, but the incident was purely accidental. What happened was that a 14-year old Colorado Springs girl, Kiana O'neil was shot as she was trying to get through the window of her house at 6AM in the morning. Her stepfather, thinking that it was a burglary, accidentally shot and killed her.

What I learnt:

I learnt that this case was a case of trust and that if we as teenagers should lie to our parents and sneak out in the middle of the night. This could be a good expository writing topic, to discuss whether it is best for teens to let their parents know their whereabouts rather than lying to them. Also, a discussion on the law of firearms could also be done.
