Independent Learning Log

Independent Learning Log

What I did:
I was quite weak in writing expository essays so I decided to look up tips on how to craft a proper expository essay.

What I learned:

Follow 8 basic steps:
1. Select a topic which is manageable enough to fit into an essay
2. Write a thesis statement which expresses a controlling idea that is neither too broad nor too specific to be developed effectively
3. Select a method of development before settling on the one that will best serve my essay
4. Organize the essay by listing the major topics which the body paragraphs in my essay will discuss then fill in the supports that each body paragraph of the essay will contain
5. A furnished paragraph of introduction should state the thesis of the essay, introduce the divisions in the body paragraphs of the essay, and gain the interest of the reader
6. For each paragraph, furnish a topic sentence that directly relates to the thesis sentence
7. Each body paragraph should develop the primary support covered in that paragraph's topic sentence
8. A concluding paragraph should restate the thesis and topics of the essay, bring the essay to an appropriate and effective close and should not digress into new issues
